Global Communities is seeking a Strategic Partnerships Officer to join its Strategic Partnerships department at the Headquarters in downtown Silver Spring, Maryland.  

Responsibilities

The Strategic Partnerships Officer leads efforts to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the department’s business development efforts, performs research, conducts analyses, and contributes to partner cultivation and proposal/concept note development, ensuring the responsive submission of concept notes and proposals, and assisting with other duties as assigned.  Specific duties include:

 


1. Leads effort to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of business development efforts:

  • Defines and manages the department’s proposal development process, which includes: a) creating proposal development procedures; b) establishing and outlining roles and responsibilities, key tasks and timelines associated with efficient proposal submission; and c) establishing proposal templates. 
  • Serves as department liaison on business development efforts for other departments in the organization including International Operations, Humanitarian Assistance, and Development Finance.
  • Captures and develops key core capabilities and qualifications statements.
  • Develops content for factsheets designed to reach specific audiences.


2. Concept note development and proposal coordination:

  • Contributes to the ideation process for the development of program concepts
  • Supports department Directors and staff, field teams and technical consultants as necessary to capture key ideas and writes elements of partnership concept notes.
  • Serves as a departmental liaison with field teams and HQ-based proposal teams, and partner organizations to facilitate information gathering and proposal design.
  • Writes key proposal sections including, but not limited to: background statements, technical components, cross-cutting issues, management and staffing, and organizational capacity.

3. Supports the Director with Partner Cultivation

  • Participates in phone calls, meetings and field visits needed to support current and potential partner engagements.
  • Conducts research on company, foundation or country background information, sectoral/subject-matter best practices, and other information needed for concept notes, partnership development strategies and proposal design.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

 

  • Strong understanding of proposal development processes and procedures within the context of an international organization.
  • Good analytical and research skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills. Ability to interact with all levels of staff in a professional manner.
  • Works well under pressure with tight deadlines
  • Able to work in a team environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills. Ability to manage deadlines and to work independently. Ability to prioritize workload and multi-task in fast paced environment.
  • Fluency in English, written and oral. Abilities in a second language preferred.
  • Advanced computer skills in a Windows-based environment including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and SharePoint.
  • Able and willing to travel internationally.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents and ability to sit at a computer and operate a key board.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree and up to 2 years of experience or a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years of experience. 
  • Demonstrated business development experience including writing proposals and/or grants required.
  • Experience working for an international non-profit organization preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience considered.
  • Must have valid U.S. work authorization.
