Global Communities is seeking an Associate, Humanitarian Assistance to join the Humanitarian Assistance team at the headquarters in downtown Silver Spring, Maryland.  The Associate, Humanitarian Assistance provides administrative support for all aspects of the humanitarian assistance portfolio managed at headquarters and assists in coordinating the organization’s response to evolving crises.



As an organization working to advance public health, Global Communities has an obligation to model best practices and to do all we can to protect each other, our partners and the communities where we work.  To ensure the continuity and effectiveness of our business operations, Global Communities is adopting a policy to safeguard the health of our visitors, employees, families, and the larger global community from COVID-19.  Effective January 3, 2022, all U.S.-based Global Communities employees are required to provide proof of having received full dosage of COVID-19 vaccine that is FDA approved, approved for emergency use authorization, or have an approved medical or religious exemption on file with Global Communities, as a condition of employment.


  • Provide logistical support to headquarters and field operations staff by managing travel arrangements, processing vendor and consultant invoices, and managing/maintaining SharePoint document libraries.
  • Support recruitment through reviewing CVs, onboarding of new employees by making travel arrangements, and demobilization through submitting invoices and requests for reimbursement.
  • Support technical writers, reviewers, and other business development team members by updating Past Performance Reviews.
  • Develop and updates program templates and tools for program support, in coordination with other teams and departments. Submits reports to various databases and points of contact, as required in grant agreements.
  • Conduct administrative tasks in support of field programs by coordinating meeting logistics (scheduling and notetaking), maintaining team calendars, and other tasks as assigned.
  • Review and edit donor reports and deliverables to ensure quality, compliance with formatting requirements, and timely submission.
  • Undertake all other duties and projects as may be assigned from time to time.



  • Willingness to mobilize to difficult locations and situations on short notice. Willingness to travel approximately 10-15% of time depending on department needs.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of international development or emergency response programming, project cycle management and grants administration.
  • Good analytical skills.
  • Fluency in English, written and oral. Fluency in a relevant second language, preferably Arabic, Spanish, French, or Russian would be an asset.
  • Able to work under general supervision, handling and completing multiple tasks simultaneously with staff in various time zones.
  • Advanced knowledge of word processing, excel, and database maintenance.
  • Able to work productively in a dynamic team environment.
  • Accuracy, attention to detail required in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents and ability to sit at a computer and operate a keyboard.


  • A passion for the mission and values of Global Communities.
  • Undergraduate degree in a related field or four years of related work experience.
  • Volunteer, fellowship or relevant internship considered experience.
  • Excellent proof reading and editing skills.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have U.S. work authorization.
