Overview

The Senior Director, Strategic Initiatives is responsible for managing multiple workstreams related to business transformations and delivering cross functional value-based outputs. They will focus on Global Program alignment and connection of its business priorities to overall organizational strategy and direction and will work across different departments and units to create achievable, integrated plans for organizational initiatives. The Senior Director will assemble and lead cross-functional working groups and project teams to drive forward project goals and desired outcomes.  The Strategy Director will reach outside the organization to benchmark best practices and position Global Communities as a contributor and thought leader in industry-related strategic initiatives such as localization, organizational agility or domestic programming.  

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for coordinating initiatives – i.e., localization, domestic programming, subsidiary/business segmentation, operating agility, etc. – to help ensure strategic priorities are effectively sequenced and integrated.
  • Track, clarify, align, measure, and drive transformational initiatives
  • Support the preparation of portfolio initiatives for annual planning and budgeting cycles
  • Implement best practices in project management, change management and value management
  • Participate in industry working groups and conferences and advocate for and represent Global Communities’ experience and thought leadership in prioritized strategic initiatives including but not limited to localization and decentralization.
  • Provide updates to organization leadership, help to drive decisions, resolve priority conflicts and monitor value realization.
  • Develop scopes of work and manage external consultancy agreements as necessary to support special projects.
  • Work closely with the SVP of Global Programs to deliver on the vision and journey. Hold teams accountable to achieve them.
  • Travel internationally and domestically as required.
  • Promote a culture of excellence, inclusion, learning, support, diversity and innovation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent project management skills. Recognized project management certification (e.g., PMP, PMD Pro) a plus.
  • Strong people leader – advocating an inspiring vision, building strong relationships, and bringing the team (and the leadership) along
  • Extensive knowledge of the international development field, including public and private sector actors.
  • Demonstrated capability in strategic visioning, planning and execution including program development, resource mobilization and operational excellence.
  • Demonstrated ability to read, analyze, interpret, and develop actionable insights from financial, programmatic, and contractual data and information. Excellent analytical skills. High level of financial literacy.
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with a broad range of external stakeholders including public and private donors, host government, international and local NGOs, and private sector.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and foster a culture of high performance, accountability, learning, respect, diversity and inclusion.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Fluency in English (written and verbal) required

Advanced computer skills in a Windows based environment including the Microsoft Suite and a high level of comfort working with technology solutions.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Undergraduate degree in a related discipline and a minimum of 11 years of related work experience or a minimum of 15 years of related work experience.  Related experience includes international development, project management, public administration or related field with 8 years progressively broad management experience, masters degree a plus.
  • Must have demonstrated experience and a deep understanding of international development and global programming through both a global and local lens and be able to work collaboratively bringing together colleagues with differing but valued perspectives.
  • Managing multiple inter-related projects spanning organization departments and businesses.
  • Required experience must include at least 10 years’ experience at a leadership/senior management level in program management and/or operations role with an international NGO.
  • Extensive experience working in field/country offices leading and managing business development, programming and country operations.

Salary range: $144K - $216K.  Salary offerrs are determined by a variety of factors including budget, internal equity, qualifications, and experience.
