JOB SUMMARY

 

The Chief Financial and Administrative officer has broad management responsibilities for all Global Communities financial activities. The CFAO works closely with the President and CEO and is responsible for maintaining the financial health of the organization, including the annual budget and financial planning process. The CFAO provides executive leadership while maintaining the integrity of accounting procedures, records and internal controls, and providing financial reporting and analysis to help the executive team develop and implement strategies to advance the organization’s mission. This role is pivotal in maintaining financial integrity, optimizing operational efficiency, leveraging technology for organizational advancement, and fostering a high-performing, engaged workforce.

Responsibilities

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee global financial operations of the organization including financial planning, donations, budgeting, audits, forecasting, reporting, payroll, controller and performance measurements.
  • Oversee all financial aspects of contractual, legal, tax, and regulatory obligations.
  • Collaborate with the CEO and senior management to set short and long-term objectives.
  • Oversee the strategic direction and operational effectiveness of IT and HR functions.
  • Serve as a resource for members of senior management, counseling them on financial matters relating to the organization.
  • Prepare reports and interpret financial results for meetings and management decision-making.
  • Manage relationships with regulatory agencies, donors, partners, banks and others.
  • Maintain relations with external auditors and investigate their findings and recommendations
  • Oversee management of financial staff around the globe.
  • Understand and mitigate key elements of the company's risk profile
  • Construct and monitor reliable control systems
  • Maintain appropriate insurance coverage

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

 

 

  • Experience working with complex accounting and finance systems, including financial reporting, budgeting, and audits.
  • Highly knowledgeable about financial accounting within organizations that generate revenue from multiple sources, including a USAID and a variety of other donors.
  • Ability to work with senior management on organizational objectives and decision-making.
  • Strong communication and analytical skills with aptitude for clarity, accuracy, and details.
  • Interest and ability to travel to countries where Global Communities is active.
  • Cultural sensitivity and comfort interfacing with leaders in all parts of the world.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, particularly Excel.

 

Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Master's degree and a minimum of 13 years of relevant and progressively responsible experience working for a nonprofit international NGO; or a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 15 years of stated experience.
  • Experience as a Controller and/or CFO/Deputy CFO a must.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
